The article is devoted to the comprehension of the content and forms of manifes-
tation of the main contradiction of the modern era: the desire of capitalism to prolong its domi-
nation by all possible means, distancing and postponing its imminent end in spite of the exhaus-
tion of vital resources of the capitalist social formation. The forms of manifestation of this con-
tradiction, along with the factor of the increasing role of vulgar science, are to no lesser extent
the final subordination of science to the interests of capital and the tendency of dehumanisation
of man and social relations associated with it, as well as the emergence of class antagonism be-
tween labour and capital beyond the boundaries of national states and its extension to the entire
system of the international division of labour and international relations.
