Abstract

Actual trends and challenges of the modern reality initiate a change in the conceptual ideas about the role, goals and content of the education in the modern world. The dynamic development of the information space, globalization, the formation of new «technologies and habits of using the media» are in modern conditions significant factors in rethinking the vector, content and directions of the higher education development. These trends actualize the importance of a teacher's media competence, capable of creative interaction with the works of media culture and to fully use educational and developmental media in the educational process.

The article presents the basic competencies of a high school teacher. It is noted that digital competencies are not enough for higher school teachers to cope with the challenges of our time, so the teacher needs to master media competencies as well. However, universities do not contribute to the mastery of these competencies by the teacher. The author has proposed a number of suggestions that will allow to develop an ability to effectively use digital resources and get the most out of them, as well as integrate them into the educational practice.
