Analysis of Methods to Reduce the Travel Cost on the the Toll Sections of the M-4 «Don» Highway

The methods used to improve the safety and comfort of the travel along the southern toll sections of the M-4 «Don» highway in the Rostov region and Krasnodar Krai are considered. The historical background of the origin and development of toll roads in Russia is given.
The possibilities used to reduce the travel time and payment are indicated.
Such factors influencing the amount of payment for travel as the use of reasonable tariffication for the provision of these transport services; application of the tariff rate differentiated by time of the day; the use of conventional and T-pass transponders as a technical means of payment; optimization of the travel cost along the route through the use of the «Toll Road Calculator» Internet module are analyzed.
A new toll collection point, intended to service an 85-kilometer section of the highway from 633 to 715 km, with a permitted speed limit of up to 130 km per hour is characterized. It is equipped with 16 lanes for the passage of cars, some of which can be used in the reverse mode.
