NATIONAL INTERESTS OF STATES IN THE PERIOD OF LATE CAPITALISM

Abstract

This article is devoted to the consideration of modern approaches in the scien-tific literature to the study of the concept of "national interests". The author argues that the exist-ing interpretations, often based solely on official documents, ignore the class essence of the state, hiding the true interests of the ruling bourgeoisie. It is emphasized that in order to reveal the true content of national interests, a scientific analysis based on Marxist methodology is nec-essary. The author identifies two aspects of understanding national interest: state and scientific, emphasizing the need to overcome simplistic notions of national interest as a direct translation
of the goals of supreme power, and showing how the ideological service of capital disguises real
goals under the guise of universal values. As a result, the author comes to the conclusion that the
study of national interests should be based on a deep philosophical analysis of real social conditions,
the class nature of the state and the system of reproduction of the prevailing ideology. A
scientific approach to the consideration of issues of national identity (security, interests) is impossible
without taking into account the historical perspective and recognizing the inevitability
of conflicts within society generated by the capitalist economic system.
