AN EXISTENTIAL VIEW OF PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT: PHILOSOPHICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL ASPECTS

The article examines the existential approach to understanding personality development,
which was formed in line with the European philosophy of the 20th century and has
been further developed in modern psychology. The article analyzes the key categories of existentialism
– freedom, responsibility, authenticity, anxiety and choice – and their role in the formation
of human subjectivity. Special attention is paid to the definition of personality, its structure
and dynamics, as well as the comparison of the concepts of “person”, “individual”, “individuality”
and “personality”. The importance of the existential worldview for understanding the
processes of self-development and meaning-making is substantiated. It has been concluded that
existential philosophy makes a significant contribution to modern concepts of personality focusing
on individual autonomy and the ability to make sense.
