MODERN CHALLENGES OF POLITICIZATION OF RELIGION

Abstract

The politicization of religion is a multifaceted and complex phenomenon that has
deep historical roots and modern manifestations. The political use of religious human rights and
religious institutions can lead to serious consequences for believers, society and the State, including
the loss of statehood. The cases are considered using the example of a state in which violations
and restrictions of human rights, namely religious rights, led to a split in society and to a
change in territorial borders. The article examines the possible risks of politicizing religion, in
particular Orthodoxy, and suggests measures aimed at creating a culture of respect for the freedom
of conscience of every person, regardless of their beliefs.
