LARGE CYCLES OF RUSSIAN-GERMAN RELATIONS: HISTORY AND MODERNITY

Abstract

In the article, modern Russian-German relations are examined in the context of large historical cycles which both countries have undergone. It is concluded that, although the current situation has a number of unique features and marks deep geostrategic shifts, its structural contradictions allow for positive developments in the medium term. In the era of globalization, each individual link in the European political architecture influences the formulation and solution of world-historical issues, which ultimately makes cooperation between Moscow and Berlin unavoidable, although many of its key prerequisites have been purposefully destroyed in recent years by the collective West. From the methodological point of view, it turned out to be very productive to single out several levels of historical time, since it allows the researchers to abstract from conjuncture considerations and gives them new opportunities for verifying the proposed models. Accordingly, it makes sense to raise the issue of transferring the methods of the historical sciences to political research in a new way.
