Formation of Nitrogen Oxides in the Furnaces of Power Boilers of Thermal Power Plants and Their Reduction Method

The hypothesis essence of the formation of nitrogen oxides in the furnaces of power boilers burning hydrocarbon fuels, proposed by the author for discussion, is outlined.
The essence of the proposed hypothesis is to assert the decisive influence of carbon content in the fuel on the yield of nitrogen oxides. This statement is based on an analysis of practical data indirectly confirming this fact.
Based on the hypothesis, a possible low-cost and economical METHOD for reducing the yield of nitrogen oxides in the fuel combustion zone by reducing the carbon content of the fuel is also proposed.
The use of the proposed METHOD will significantly reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere from power boilers. For example, for energy boilers running on natural gas, it is possible to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions to 100 mg/m3.
Reducing the carbon content of fuel can be achieved using a low-cost METHOD of supplying water steam to the combustion zone, which will improve, in addition to environmental, also the technical and economic performance of the boiler.
If the results of the METHOD proposed for use are positive, it can also be replicated for other fuel-using installations.
