Methodology Improvement for the Number of Buses Determination in the Suburban Traffic

The analysis of the existing methodology for the determination of the required number of buses operating on the route is carried out. It is established that the main parameter of buses that influences the determination of their required number to work on the route is the technical speed.
It is proposed to improve the existing methodology for the determination of the required number of buses operating on a suburban route by determining the speed and time of the bus along the route based on the computer simulation.
The computer program «Speed and Travel Time Calculation» is developed. It allows to automate the determination of the bus turnaround time on the route, taking into account the road conditions, technical characteristics of buses, the existing organization of the traffic on the route.
It is established that provided the turnaround time is determined taking into account changing road conditions and the traffic organization scheme on the routes № 195 and № 151 of the city of Donetsk in winter, up to two additional buses may be required.
