Mechanical Engineering of the Donetsk People's Republic: Threats to the Economic Security and Possible Consequences of their Implementation

Abstract

Even taking into account the damage received during the hostilities, the Donetsk People's Republic has a serious economic, scientific and technical potential, which can increase significantly after the complete liberation of large industrial centers. The development of mechanical engineering as an export-oriented industry that produces products with high added value, providing machines and equipment to other industries, in particular, metallurgical and mining, is a priority task for the Republic. The analysis of the machine-building industry of the DPR (including those in the temporarily occupied territories) testifies to the instability of the activities of enterprises that face a number of threats to their economic interests. Timely identification and prevention of threats to the economic system of any level is one of the main tasks to ensure its economic security. General threats to the economic security of industrial enterprises, regardless of the industry affiliation and specific threats that pose a danger to the economic interests of enterprises in the machine-building industry of the Republic are identified. The possible consequences of the implementation of the identified threats are identified in order to further localize and eliminate them. A toolkit for determining the level of pressure of identified threats using expert assessments and ranking is proposed. Ensuring the economic security of the machine-building industry plays an important role in the development of the economic sovereignty of the DPR, creates conditions for the implementation of the strategic priorities of its socio-economic development.
