Improvement of the Methodology for the Rolling Stock Timetable Development in the Urban Bus Transportation Organization

The traffic timetable development is a process, a sequence of actions aimed at forming a table, building a traffic chart based on the predetermined time, place and sequence of runs. The satisfaction degree of the demand for the passenger transportation, the quality level of the passenger service, and the rolling stock efficiency will depend on the correctness of the timetable development. Therefore, the problem of improving the methodology for the rolling stock timetable development in the urban bus transportation organization is very relevant.
The conducted analysis of the existing methods of the bus timetable development on urban routes allowed us to conclude that most scientists consider the development of the timetable as a separate stage (element) of the process of the passenger bus transportation organization. Therefore, in their works, they do not provide methods for developing bus timetables, limiting themselves to describing the types of timetables, requirements for them, methods of their compilation, or disclose the content of the final stage of the bus s timetable development. The existing methods of the bus timetable development on urban routes require clarification of the composition of the timetable development process stages, as well as the improvement of the graphic-analytical calculation of rational modes of the vehicles operation used in the methodology.
Based on the analysis of the existing methods of the bus timetable development on urban routes, determining their advantages, disadvantages and conclusions, the methodology of the bus timetable development is developed, which, unlike existing ones, takes into account, in the graphic-analytical calculation of rational modes of the buses and drivers operation, the type of route, the method of organizing the release of rolling stock from the initial and final points of routes, the estimated time of the run and turnover.
The application of the proposed methodology will allow the enterprises to develop the bus timetables that will meet the needs of passengers, comply with legal requirements, ensure a high level of the public service quality and the rolling stock efficiency. We propose to divide the time axis in the graphic-analytical calculation not into intervals equal to 1 hour, but into intervals equal to the turnaround time or run, take into account the type of route and the method of organizing the release of buses from the initial and final points of the routes. The proposed methodology can be used to develop a timetable for the movement of the rolling stock of other types of urban transport, taking into account their specifics of the organization and the passenger transportation planning.
