Abstract

The increase in the motorization level leads not only to the increase in the comfort of movement, but also to the emergence of the transport problems, among which the traffic congestion on the urban highways, the accident rate growth, the deterioration of the environmental situation can be singled out. Today, these problems are the most urgent in the world, so their solution is important and of the highest priority. The analysis of the Gorlovka network of streets showed that it was formed and developed historically: the construction of settlements took place near mines and enterprises for their workers’ dwelling, and then the residential areas were connected with each other by means of roads.

To reduce the traffic load and the vehicle overruns, it is necessary to consider the possibility of additional connection of the city western and eastern parts with each other. When developing measures to optimize the development of the Gorlovka road network, the following criteria were applied:

  • the vehicle mileage reduction;
    • the accident reduction;
      • the reduction of the transport harmful effects on the environment;
        • the reduction of the traffic load on certain streets of the city;
          • the minimum investment.

It is proposed to evaluate the effectiveness of the new road network scheme taking into account the changes in the traffic parameters in comparison with the traffic on the existing road network. It is proposed to take into account the change in the motion parameters using the following coefficients:

  • KL – taking into account the overruns of vehicles with the existing road network;
    • KP – taking into account the number of places of the road traffic accidents concentration along the route of the transport flows;
      • Kt taking into account the loss of the movement time.

Thus, the implementation of the proposed measures to improve the road network significantly will allow to reduce the load at the most hazardous intersections of the city: Vosstaniya Square and the intersection of the Internatsionalnaya and Gorlovskaya Diviziya Streets; and the vehicle overruns will be significantly reduced.
